I introduce Mike Grieves' book Virtually Perfect, and John Stark's book Products2019, and the lecture goes on to discuss six characteristics of a PLM system, and how the characteristics lead to Digital Twins and Threads.
Lecture 2C: Circular Economies and Industry 4.0
We can imagine four phases of the industrial age which began steam power in the 18th century, followed by mass production in the early 20th, the computer age in the late 20th, and now the cybernetic age in the 21st.
The "end" of product lifecycles traditionally ends when the product is discarded, but this is unsustainable. When a product reaches the end of it's useful life, its components need to be used in something else. This refers to a video developed by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
